the solution method

why solution-Focus?

There are some fields like mechanics where diagnosis and analysing problems yields results, like knowing what part of a car to replace.

We humans are infinitely more complicated, not to mention our interactions with the people around us, often the origin of our perceived “problems”. Therefore, when the problem is beyond replacing a broken part so must our method of problem solving go beyond looking for what is wrong.

Solution-Focused methods guide us towards solutions in the infinitely complex world of working with and leading people.

What is Solution-Focus?

It seems too simple to say “Solution-Focus” is exactly as so named. Except that is exactly what Solution-Focus is: an organised way of thinking and working with people to unearth and bring focus to solutions.

One misconception is that if you are Solution-Focused you don’t talk about problems, funnily enough this couldn’t be further from the truth. In a Solution-Focused method we talk about problems, we just do it in an organised way that progresses the solution rather than analysing the problem.

The rapidly growing realm of Solution-Focused practices can trace their roots to Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) originally developed by Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg and colleagues at the Milwaukee Brief Family Therapy Centre. Solution-Focused practices are rapidly evolving worldwide and used in a huge array of contexts.

Here you will find a plethora of resources to help you on your way to expanding your Solution-Focus.
